And this is only one of Rufus’s personality… er… quirks. And as you may remember from one paragraph ago, he is also an extreme sexist. Rufus: Rufus is, as you may remember from four paragraphs ago, the main protagonist. I will say this much though, all of the jokes may not offend all of the people all of the time, but some of the jokes will definitely offend some of the people some of the time. Whether it’s from the aforementioned pedophile, Rufus’s near constant sexism, or the time Rufus sells a black woman to be an organ grinder’s monkey-okay out of context that last one sounds really, really bad but in the game… it’s actually somehow worse. Though, I’m a white male, so I don’t think I’m the best person to ask if something is or isn’t offensive. Now, I’m not easily offended, generally as far as I’m concerned there isn’t really a “too soon” cut off for jokes. But then the series keeps going until the point where (and I’m not exaggerating here) there’s a pedophile who you see trying to lure children into his van, the kids don’t fall for it, so don’t worry about that, but that was still the moment I had to pause the game and come to terms with just how… not lighthearted this game is. ![]() Okay, this is hardly the first game that makes a joke at an NPC’s expense, it’s still nothing too bad. Suddenly death and other misfortunes are being played off as jokes. It’s got some slapstick humor, some witty back and forth, and puns as far as the ear can hear.īut as the series goes on, the games seem to get a bit darker. The game certainly starts out like that, and it is genuinely funny. ![]() Humor: This is a comedy series, after all, so the humor is important. From the trailers of the games, I was under the impression this was going to be a light-hearted adventure that pokes fun at how game heroes are always stepping on the NPCs to get ahead. But Rufus has a trick up his sleeve, he’s the main character, if anyone can do the impossible, it’s him. Rufus’s life goal has always been to get to Elysium, a feat that (according to literally everyone else) is impossible. This story follows a lazy, self-centered, sociopathic, arrogant, kleptomaniac named Rufus. Life on Deponia is, as you would expect, not so good, but every resident has learned to live with it… well… except for one: the main character. Deponia is completely covered in garbage, but Elysium by contrast is a clean and nearly utopian society. Meanwhile, floating high in the sky above Deponia is the landmass called Elysium. Story: The games take place on planet Deponia (that’s where the series gets its name from). The games that make up this trilogy are: Deponia, Chaos on Deponia, and Goodbye Deponia. ![]() Eventually the entire trilogy became available as one singular game called Deponia: The Complete Journey. About the Game: Deponia is a trilogy of point-and-click adventure games released in 20.
